It Was Once My Universe, 2018 - 2019 (selected)
artist statement | exhibition views | essay | pressIn late 2018 I am finally able to return home after being away for over eight long years. I encountered conflicting feelings—I thought I would feel differently than I did, I thought homecoming would be easy, but it wasn’t. I had been away too long—again, I felt displaced. Where was home now? Who am I? The images span my return to my hometown Mikulov in the Czech Republic, reunion with the family and childhood places, the holidays, my mother’s wedding, and the new year; but my camera timestamp is still set to New York time, indicating the slippage between space and time, the slippage between past and present, the slippage between memory and nostalgia, the slippage between places and self.
