First Roll, Kate and Odie is a sequence of moments that closely connect to convey my experience of that afternoon in 2017 when I first met Kate and identified with her so deeply. I could not return home at the time, and to me Kate (who is also Czech) was home. I shot a single 36-exposure roll of film in the bathroom and felt so internally moved looking through the viewfinder - seeing Kate and Odie newly in love. This experience was formative for me as a photographer. It is cinematic and still - frame after frame, moment after moment.
